faith plus goodness
The first thing that Peter says we must “add to [our] faith” is “goodness,” according to the NIV. When we read that we are to “add…goodness,” it’s very easy for us to assume that this simply means we should be morally right, pure, and ethical. While such things are certainly included in the biblical concept of goodness, there is a deeper meaning of this attribute that we need to consider.
