Names matter because they communicate something about the one named. But no name matters more than the name or names of God. Before we examine some of God’s names, we first need to consider what our responsibility is to His names. In the model prayer, Jesus began by saying, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” (Matthew 6:9). What does hallowing God’s name mean? Ultimately, it means holding it in reverence, but how do we do that?
