One of the most challenging parables in the Gospels is found in Luke 16:1-13. Some translations refer to it as “The Parable of the Unjust Steward,” while others call it “The Parable of the Dishonest Manager.” This parable is challenging because, from our modern perspective, it seems to praise a financial manager for what appears to be unethical business practices. Surely, there is more to this parable than meets the eye. So, let’s investigate what’s ultimately going on and how it applies to us in the more appropriately named “Parable of the Shrewd Manager.”
