Last words are important. They can be the final legacy of a life well-lived. And Jesus’ last recorded words are no exception. He spoke seven times from he cross. None of His statements were very long but all of them were very “rich with significance,” as one author pointed out. He spoke words of forgiveness. He promised salvation to a thief. He made arrangements for the care of His mother. He quoted from the Old Testament. He requested something to quench His thirst. He acknowledged the completion of His mission. Then, He spoke His very last words before “He breathed his last.” Those words were "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” (Luke 23:46).
